J.M. Teague Engineering

J. M. Teague Engineering (JMTE) is a traffic engineering firm that manages a wide range of large and small projects across the western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee region.  Founded in early 2010, JMTE specializes in providing traffic engineering expertise to local municipalities, property owners associations, school systems, private institutions, and professional clients such as landscape architects, urban planners, and civil engineering firms.  We are located in Waynesville, North Carolina – the eastern doorstep to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 

Owner and Principal Engineer Mark Teague is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina.  Mark also is a certified public manager and is certified in context sensitive solutions.  Mark spent 18 years as a lead traffic engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he worked with state and local agencies in 25 of North Carolina’s westernmost counties.  His knowledge of local communities and their traffic engineering challenges was one of the catalysts for the founding of JMTE.  

JMTE offers extensive traffic engineering services including: intersection safety, traffic calming, traffic impact analysis review and preparation, traffic data collection, traffic signal warrant and operation, pavement marking design and operation, sign design and operation, risk management, MUTCD training and compliance, bicycle and pedestrian safety, pavement condition surveys, presentations, sight distance evaluations, and expert testimony.   

Much of our work is centered within mountainous areas, so the extra challenges of steep grades, horizontal and vertical sight distance, and winding roads are no obstacle to us.  As a small firm, JMTE can provide the crucial time and attention needed to successfully achieve solutions for the many traffic challenges impacting communities throughout the region.
